Russian Island is selling ONLY handmade and hand painted dolls !!! No cheap copies, all the dolls are authentic !!! This doll is hand painted in Russia, Sergiev Posad and signed by Russian artist in 1993; 5 pieces. H 6.25 inches. The dolls have paintings of girl with cats and kitchen stuff. There may be slight variations in painting because all the dolls are hand painted but they are very close to the picture. The doll is in very good vintage condition. In Russia making wooden objects which fit each inside other has many Centuries tradition. Gradually these figurines became to be carved in the shape of dolls. These dolls were made and painted by Russian craftsmen. This fabulous Russian doll was given the name MATRIOSHKA [matryoshka, matreshka] which originated from root of the word maternity. It became a symbol of FERTILITY and PERPETUATION. It is a good luck present for a very long time.
