The First Day Cover is issued in Commemoration of Antarctica Station –Mirny. The station was opened on February 13, 1956 by the 1st Soviet Antarctic Expedition. It was originally used as main base for the Vostok Station located 1,400 kilometers (870 mi) from the coast. The first cover cancellationwas made on January 25, 1960 at Antarktida-Komsomol’skaya station. Size 6.5x3.25 inches. Very rare.
