This is a gorgeous Vintage Russian Orthodox 3-dimension heavy brass traveling icon Saint George Slaying the Dragon. The icon was made in the XX Century. It has image of Saint George Slaying the Dragon. The icon is in excellent condition. The brass plate has openings which make the icon very elegant. Size is 3 (with hook) x 2 inches. Saint George the Martyr is one of the most venerated Christian saints and the patron of Russia. In Russia, the cult of Saint George arrived in the 11th century. The earliest known depiction of the Saint dating from the 12th century appears in the frescoes cycle St George's Church in Staraya Ladoga. In Christian art a serpent or dragon is the symbol of the devil. This whole conflict is seen as good triumphing over evil.
