This is vintage hand painted original Saint Nicholas Orthodox Christian icon. The writings in abbreviated Old Russian Language on the icon stand for Saint Nicholas. This rare beautiful icon is handmade and hand painted in USSR in late 1980s. It is difficult to find the completely hand painted icons at that time. It is one of a kind and the artist has made only one. You buy what you see on the pictures. The St. Nicholas icon is hand painted by Russian artist on solid wood board. Russian artist used a lot of gold paint. The icon is in excellent condition for its age (see pictures). Size is 10 x 8”. The image of Saint Nicholas is very popular in Russian iconography. Saint Nicholas is the Orthodox tradition's Wonder or Miracle Worker. As such he is Russia's most beloved the most venerated saint; his icon often appearing on triptychs with Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Numerous Russian cathedrals, monasteries, and churches have been dedicated to St. Nicholas.
