This is antique end of XVIII Century Russian icon of Archangel Michael. The image of Archangel Michael is very popular in Russian iconography. This icon was hand painted on wooden board, circa 1790. The icon is in very good antique condition (see pictures). The icon has two parallel wedges on the back to prevent wood from being warped. The wedges are in the good condition. The icon was a part of iconostasis; it has holes and parts of old nails around the edges of the icon. The writing in Old Russian Language on the top of the icon “Archangel Michael”. Archangel Michael is the head of the Lord's Army. He is depicted with shield, sward, and spear. Archangel Michael is wearing helmet and special armor. It is very intricate and good quality artwork.
